(Sydney, Australia) Tuesday June 12, 2018 – Voted one of the world’s best projects in 2017, the highly-anticipated development Infinity by Crown Group achieved a major milestone this week.
Positioned in the heart of Sydney’s new Green Square urban precinct, the eye-catching 20-storey development achieved an important construction milestone this week with the commencement of the erection of the large steel arch at level 18 of the building.
Over the next three weeks Crown Group will be constructing the large arch at level 18 of the Infinity building. This involves hoisting and assembling 370 items of structural steel 54 meters up in the air. The largest of the steel members weighs 63 tonnes and will take 10 hours to bolt into position.
To facilitate the construction of the arch, Crown will be using a 500 tonne capacity crane from Brogers Cranes. A partial road closure of Ebsworth street in Waterloo will be necessary for a three-week period.
The steel has been fabricated by Leed Steel in their factory in Albury. Fabrication commenced in November last year and has involved approximately 12,000 man hours to fabricate and deliver to site. There are 18 truckloads necessary to deliver all the steel to site, 13 of which are oversized loads which need to travel overnight and arrive onsite at 4am to be off the roads during peak hour traffic. The journey takes two nights for each load.
The development is progressing really well and will finish ahead of schedule in the first quarter of next year.
Crown Group Chairman and Group CEO Iwan Sunito said it was a major milestone for the company in 2018.
“Crown Group is immensely proud to mark the commence of the front curve creation of the long-awaited global icon Infinity by Crown Group,” Mr. Sunito said.
“Set to become one of Green Square’s most recognised structures, Infinity by Crown Group has been an exceptional development from the start,” said Mr. Sunito. “It will set a new benchmark for urban living and become the landmark gateway to Sydney’s newest vibrant Green Square precinct.”
Designed by Koichi Takada Architects, Infinity by Crown Group will be distinguished by its unique looped shape and a large void in its north-facing façade, allowing natural light to penetrate the tower’s 1,180sqm central landscaped plaza.
The $575-million development will sit on the corner of Bourke Street and Botany Road – with pedestrian access from Green Square’s new Ebsworth Street and will feature approximately 30 retail outlets, restaurants and cafés; plus a conference centre large enough to hold 450 people.
Improved public transport access forms part of the design with the extension of an underground pedestrian walkway and construction of a new wheelchair access lift linking Botany Road’s public plaza with Green Square train station.
Resort-style resident facilities will include an infinity swimming pool, spa, gymnasium, music room, theatre, concierge, a rooftop terrace and sky lounge.
“This unique, perpetually curved form of Crown Group’s most ambitious architectural challenge creates a truly landmark and inspirational building. We imagined tomorrow’s elements of urban lifestyle and what we aspire this to be and were driven to bring the future to the present,” added Mr. Sunito.
The mixed-use development is described by City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore as an exciting addition to $8 billion Green Square redevelopment precinct.
Infinity by Crown Group attracts the attention of the world. The one-of-a kind design featuring custom-made, floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a spectacular rooftop terrace was awarded the 2014 Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) NSW Concept Design award. Infinity by Crown Group also received Honourable Mention in the American Architecture Awards for architectural design and mixed-use architecture, 2016, and was selected as one of the world’s best projects at the 2017 Australia Property Congress.
Infinity by Crown Group is scheduled for completion in early 2019.
