FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 23, 2013 – Designed by award-winning, Eastern-suburbs architects MPRDG and featuring a bold, eye-catching design, Crown Group’s innovative new development, Viking by Crown is now under construction in Sydney’s Waterloo.
The $80 million building is situated on a rare triangular island block on O’Dea Avenue, just a five-minute drive from Sydney’s central business district and a 15-minute drive from Sydney’s world famous Bondi Beach.
A brand new display suite is opening on-site at Viking by Crown on Saturday February 9.
When complete the building’s two main façades – looking to the north-west and north-east – will feature floor-to-ceiling glass, a wide loggia and views to the CBD and Green Square district, while its eye-catching O’Dea Avenue facade boasts architecturally-designed, three-dimensional red, yellow and green panels.
The bold design has already proven popular with more than 75 per cent of its 114-apartments already sold, many to Bondi Beach locals.
Crown Group Chief Executive Iwan Sunito said Viking by Crown’s design is an exceptional use of the space.
Priced from $475 000 to $1.3 million, and ranging from 58 to 191 square metres (including balconies), Viking by Crown’s apartments feature high ceilings, high-quality internal fittings, open plan living spaces, large balconies and secure parking.
Viking by Crown will add a flourish of modern design and colour to Waterloo’s Green Square district, Mr Sunito said.
“Viking by Crown will not only be a fine place to live but this wonderful structure will add a refreshing new dimension to the Green Square precinct. Seventy five per cent of the units were early pre-sales – and that’s for the simple reason that the building’s innovative design has really struck a chord,” Mr Sunito said.
“Viking by Crown is a unique site and a unique design.”
Hints of colour will also adorn the balconies, complements of custom-built aluminium bi-fold louvres which enable balconies to be completely enclosed. The louvres will act almost like a second skin providing an ever-changing and transforming layer to the building.
Lead architect Brian Meyerson said he wanted to maximize every opportunity of the unique, triangular site.
MPRDG were winners of the 2012 Waverley Design Award’s Public Space Contribution Award for the Beach House.
“What we did was create a three-dimensional façade on O’Dea Avenue so when people travel in one direction – mostly travelling to work in the morning – they see bright early morning colours and then when they are travelling home in the afternoon they see warm sunset colours,” Mr Meyerson said.
“We looked at the site and recognized there was a lot of traffic movement on O’Dea Avenue where people will see it every day. We wanted to make it memorable not just for the people who live in it but for people who pass by,” Mr Meyerson said.
The 10-storey project is expected to be finished in early 2014.
Construction of Viking by Crown began in July 2012 following Crown Group’s purchase of the site in March 2012.
A new onsite display office will open at 30-36 O’Dea Avenue on Saturday February 9 and will be open Thursday-Monday, from 10am – 4pm.
