The best luxury pools are exquisitely designed, with smooth, translucent water, entrancing decor and panoramic views. They're also superbly located. Whether you're sharing a romantic sunset with your beau, sipping a cocktail with friends or swimming a few lengths, the experience is undoubtedly better in prime real estate 20 floors above an urban cityscape.

Marina Bay Sands Hotel, with its iconic infinity pool overlooking Singapore's skyline, is a favourite playground of the rich and famous. But Sydney residents don't need to venture overseas to experience the very best pools – we can kick back in our own backyard.

Three of Crown Group's luxury apartment complexes boast pools that push the boundaries of engineering, innovation and architectural sophistication. They all overlook a metropolis that was recently included in Condé Nast Traveler's list of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Let's dive in …

Infinity Pool, Skye (North Sydney)

Crown Group's Skye complex is located in North Sydney, a prime location that positions it in the midst of urban Sydney. Despite this, the soft, subtle decor and furnishings offer a tranquil respite from the scamper of the city streets beneath. Skye residents have easy access to all of North Sydney's shopping complexes, restaurants and bars (including Greenwood Plaza) but can retreat into their own island paradise – of which the pool is the heart and soul – when the stress of the outside environment gets too much.

"It was always our mission to create the feeling of visiting a beautiful five-star luxury resort on a remote island," says Skye's award-winning architect, Koichi Takada. Nowhere is this better encapsulated than by the building's 25-metre rooftop infinity pool, inspired by the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.

You'll feel as though you're on holiday every time you come home.

The 168,000 litre pool, located on the 20th floor of the building, was unveiled in January 2017. Uniquely, it's engineered to be completely sound-proof – any noise from the pool area won't be heard from inside the apartments. With its relaxed ambience and breathtaking views of surrounding North Sydney and the harbour, you'll feel as though you're on holiday every time you come home.

During the daytime, the pool area has the feel of a tropical paradise – lush with greenery and bright blue hues, all blending in seamlessly with both the rooftop's timber deck and the cool glass of the surrounding urban landscape. In the evenings, soft romantic light transforms the poolside area into an elegant space, complemented by views of the illuminated Sydney skyline.

Ice Cave Swimming Pool, Arc (CBD)

The 25-floor Arc by Crown Group, due to open in 2018, will offer understated luxury in the heart of Sydney's CBD. Located on Clarence Street, the completed building – which will house restaurants, retail outlets, a gym, hotel suites, luxury apartments and penthouses – will be in prime position for exploring the very best of what Sydney has to offer. From the five-star suites, residents will be able to admire panoramic views of Sydney from what is sure to become one of the city's architectural icons.

And Koichi Takada's stunning masterpiece – the Ice Cave swimming pool – provides yet another reason to move into this place.

Unlike the infinity pool in North Sydney's Skye complex, Arc's pool will be located indoors. The unique, futuristic design was inspired by ice cave formations and is designed to encourage residents to reinvigorate. It's the perfect place to unwind after a busy day in the Sydney CBD. After you've taken a dip in here, you can venture onto the roof and recline on one of the day beds.

Pool Deck, V (Parramatta)

V by Crown Group, which is frequently referred to as Parramatta's "Vertical Village", was designed by Allen Jack + Cottier architects, together with Koichi Takada. It's one of Western Sydney's most prestigious apartment complexes, complete with sweeping views of both the Sydney skyline and Parramatta's Heritage Parklands.

Its 29 floors are primely situated in the heart of Parramatta's commercial district, but you'll forget this once you set foot inside.

This is an oasis of calm in the midst of one of Sydney's fastest-growing regions.

In addition to facilities such as a mini-theatre, wine room, cocktail bar, sauna, premium gym and landscaped gardens, residents of V by Crown Group can lounge by a resort-style pool deck and work out in a 25-metre lap pool. The greenery and soft decor surrounding the pool's deck add to the feeling that this is an oasis of calm in the midst of one of Sydney's fastest-growing regions.
