Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project to date, and it is set to reshape the way people commute and connect throughout Sydney. By the time the project has been completed in 2024, there will be 31 metro railway stations connected by a 66 kilometre metro railway system, extending to Tallawong in the north and Bankstown in the city’s south.

Construction of the new Waterloo Station is a complex project in itself. Concrete work and waterproofing has been recently completed for this station, located 25 metres below ground level in the area between Botany Road and Cope Street, Raglan Street and Wellington Street.

Once Waterloo station is complete in 2024, travel time is expected to be a short two-minute journey to Sydney’s Central Station, a six-minute trip to the Martin Place metro station, and an eight-minute ride to Barangaroo Station and the Walsh Bay Arts and Culture precinct.

What does this mean for Waterloo residents?

The new Waterloo Station promises not only to provide an effortless commute, but also far greater access to wider Sydney through the new metro system. The system will have capability for a metro train every two minutes, enabling locals to hop on a train and make their way to work in the city and other business precincts. Bike parking and taxi bays will make it easy to connect to train journeys, while kiss and ride bays on Cope Street allow a passenger to be dropped off by parents or a partner.

The new station is certain to add to the appeal of Waterloo as a central Sydney suburb. Waterloo is situated perfectly just three kilometres from the CBD, with Moore Park and Zetland to its east, Alexandria to its west and Rosebery to the south. Part of Waterloo forms Sydney’s newest town centre, Green Square, which is set to reinvent city living with its sustainable design and vibrant communal spaces. Where once the suburb was home to manufacturers and glassworks, it is now home to trendy cafés, restaurants and Waterloo apartments close to Sydney’s centre.

As completion of Waterloo Station and the Sydney Metro nears, we anticipate increasing demand for apartments for rent and sale in Waterloo, including the luxurious Mastery by Crown Group and Waterfall by Crown Group. If you are interested in buying in or around Waterloo, then it could be an ideal time to consider opportunities in this area. Together with its future connectivity, the suburb offers stunning choices for those seeking to buy or rent apartment accommodation in and around Sydney’s CBD.
