August 5, 2013 – The Crown Prosha Joint Venture project Eastlakes Town Centre has been named the NSW and ACT’s best Concept Design at the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) NSW Awards for Excellence 2013.

Eastlakes Town Centre – a joint venture between Sydney-based property developer Crown Group and Prosha Pty Ltd – captured the attention of the UDIA award judges for its design featuring a retail precinct at ground level and 428 residential units.

Crown Group CEO Iwan Sunito accepted the award on behalf of the Crown Prosha joint venture at the annual UDIA NSW Awards held at Sydney’s Hilton Hotel on Friday July 26.

The UDIA NSW Awards for Excellence acknowledge the best in urban development across NSW and the ACT and winners are selected for their standout commitment to excellence in their category.

Crown Group CEO Iwan Sunito who spoke on behalf of the  Joint Venture said the award recognises the modern, forward-thinking concept proposed for the Eastlakes Town Centre.

With construction proposed to commence in early-2014, the Eastlakes Town Centre development aims to deliver a vibrant centre where Eastlakes residents can shop, eat, play, live, relax, enjoy life and embrace their community.

“Crown Group in joint venture with Prosha Pty Ltd endeavours to reinvigorate the Eastlakes area through the important reinvention of its shopping and social heart – The Eastlakes Town Centre,” Mr Sunito said.

“Both Crown and Prosha are proud to be acknowledged as the best Concept Design in NSW and the ACT by the UDIA which is a huge accolade. We were up against some tough competition and we are pleased to be named winners of this prestigious award.”

The development would replace the existing shopping centre with a new retail ground level reorientated to focus on the public domain and bring to life the residential buildings above.

Residential apartments will be built to maximise views and add vitality to the centre.

UDIA NSW Chief Judge Alan Zammit AM said the Eastlakes Town Centre project offered superior urban and architectural design with considerable flow-on benefits for the local community.

“This masterful concept design demonstrates well-resolved site planning, urban and architectural design,” Mr  Zammit said.

“On the main site, the residential buildings sit comfortably above the landscaped podium roof of the retail centre below.

“This development neatly solves many practical problems of pedestrian and vehicular access and circulation, loading and solar access to the retail and residential areas.

“The skilful re-activation of the main street and adjoining public park, and design for enhanced public safety and security are also impressive.”

Established in 1963, UDIA NSW is the state’s leading development industry body, representing more than 500 member companies including engineers, architects, planners and developers. It advocates for better planning; timely and affordable housing; sustainability and the building of vibrant communities.
