CROWN GROUP CEO IWAN SUNITO NAMED NOMINEE IN THE 2013 ERNST & YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR

June 11, 2013 – Crown Group is pleased to announce CEO Iwan Sunito has been named a nominee in the 2013 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Iwan joins the best entrepreneurs in Australia to be in the running for the ultimate prize of being named Australian Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

Born in Surabaya Central Java, Indonesia, Iwan grew up on the island of Borneo, before he migrated to Australia in 1985 to attend High School in Sydney.

Iwan gained a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) in 1992 and a Masters of Construction Management in 1993, both from the University of New South Wales.

He started his first company, Joshua International Architects, in 1994, designing and building luxury houses on Sydney’s north shore, before he founded Crown International Holdings Group with business-partner Paul Sathio in 1996.

Under Iwan’s guidance Crown Group has become one of Australia’s leading property developers, with more than a dozen completed developments in Bondi, Bondi Junction, Ashfield, Epping, Eastwood, Strathfield, Five Dock, Homebush, and Pennant Hills and Rhodes.

Today, Crown Group is one of Sydney’s most active property developers, with four major projects under development in Sydney and $2.5 billion worth of projects in the pipeline.

Iwan said he was honoured to be nominated for the 2013 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

“It’s a great honour to be named a nominee in this year’s Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year,” Iwan said.

“I am enormously proud of what Crown Group has achieved over the past 17 years. This nomination comes at a time of strong growth for us, amid the launch of our latest project Skye by Crown in June and during Crown’s most successful year to date,” Iwan said.

“Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year is a rare opportunity to stop and reflect on my journey and realise just how far Crown Group has come,” Iwan said.

And in 2007 was awarded the HIA (Housing Industry Association) CSR Housing Awards 2007 Apartment Project of the Year for the hugely-successful ICON at Homebush.

Iwan attributes the extraordinary success of the company to Crown Group’s dedication to producing high-quality, yet-affordable apartments in carefully selected locations.

Current projects include a 27-storey residential tower in Parramatta – V by Crown, an $80 million development 5km from Sydney’s CBD, Viking by Crown and the $500 million, seven-tower development Top Ryde City Living and the Skye by Crown in North Sydney.

“Crown consistently builds high quality, cleverly designed and efficiently constructed projects. We also spend a great deal of time assessing what the market needs with great attention and we strive to meet these needs,” Mr Sunito said.

“With every project Crown embarks on, we seek to break the mould and set a new benchmark in design,” Iwan said.

Iwan regularly travels back to Indonesia and is also heavily involved in charity and not-for-profit organisations.  Following the 2006 Asian Tsunami, he was the chairman of Indonesia’s Tsunami Corporate appeal.

Iwan is currently the chairman of a program to mentor young professionals called B2B.

He has also been actively involved in raising funds for organizations such as the Sydney Children Hospital, John Fawcett Eye Foundation in Bali, as well as various orphanage organisations in Indonesia.

Iwan lives in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and is married with three children.

Winners of the 2013 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Eastern Region will be announced in Sydney on August 29.
