17 OCTOBER 2019 Leading Australian developer Crown Group’s iconic development, Arc by Crown Group, won two top industry awards at the 2019 MBA awards – thanks to Crystal Pools’ exceptional work creating the stunning ice-cave themed indoor pool and spa.

The building, Arc by Crown Group, was designed by internationally acclaimed Koichi Takada Architects, and has become a global icon since it opened in 2018. Located at 161 Clarence Street in Sydney’s CBD, Arc by Crown Group offers 148 residential apartments, 73 serviced apartments, luxury five-star resort style facilities and a new retail and dining precinct. The striking heritage-inspired street level rustic brick arches and 59 gleaming white cathedral-like curved arches envelop the tower’s rooftop lounge and garden, forming a striking new addition to Sydney’s skyline.

Arc by Crown Group has won several international architecture awards for its innovative design features, and now its pool and spa are the winners of 2019 MBA’s best Commercial Pool and best Commercial spa in the Open Price category, attributed to Crystal Pools’ exceptional work.

The MBA Excellence in Pool Awards is the highest profile event in the pool industry, showcasing the very best in commercial and residential pools and rewarding quality, workmanship and innovation.

Located below ground in the building’s basement, the award-winning lap pool (12m x 3m x 1.2m) and spa (3m x 2.5m) are both fully tiled using Brillante glass mosaic tiles, offset with a dark grey porcelain tile. Full perimeter LED underwater strip-lighting surrounds the internal perimeter of each facility, creating a never-before-seen dreamy, intimate and cosy experience.

The indoor environment allows all year-round use without exposure to the wind, rain or sun. The ice-cave themed room is acoustically isolated preventing noise ingress to the adjoining-gymnasium which is kitted out with TVs, stylish bench seating, toilets, showers and lockers. Additional construction on bearings was conducted to reduce vibration.

Crown Group Development Manager Mark Rabone said, “A significant factor in the win was the architectural environment within which the facilities are located being, pool, spa, gym and changerooms together.

“It’s all about the whole environment, being inside and protected – this is really the wow factor. At Crown Group, the whole idea is for us to create a ‘wow’ space and great facilities you can use all year around.”

Crystal Pools celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2017 and remains Australia’s longest operating pool company. The Australian owned company has won more than 120 major state, national and international pool awards since 1957, delivering its philosophy “quality without compromise”. As builders of some of the largest and most prestigious projects in the country, such as the 2018 Commonwealth Games swimming complex on the Gold Coast, they apply the same exacting engineering standards on their residential pools as they do for their FINA Standard Olympic Pools.

Crystal Pools completed a total of three water elements for Arc by Crown Group, and two of them were awarded best Commercial Pool and best Commercial spa, recognising the unique and innovative workmanship of the incredible state-of-the-art indoor pool and spa, surrounded by visually amazing architecture while using the stunning resort-style facilities. The third one was the rooftop garden water feature running around the perimeter of both towers including an eco-friendly element featuring water-plants and fish.

Crystal Pools has built ten pools with Crown Group, winning four MBA awards. Completed pools include V by Crown Group at Parramatta, Skye by Crown Group at North Sydney and Top Ryde City Living at Ryde, and additional three pools are currently under development or in the pipeline including Eastlakes Live by Crown Group at Eastlakes, Infinity by Crown Group at Green Square and Waterfall by Crown Group at Waterloo.

“Crystal Pools’ relationship with the Crown Group goes back nearly 15 years,” says Paul Hicken, Commercial Construction Manager at Crystal Pools. “Since our first project with Crown Group we have watched them grow into a multi-billion dollar company.”
